How activation works

1. Pay, and the key arrives by email. Check your spam folder if it is not there within a few minutes.
2. On a PC that already runs Windows 11: open Settings > System > Activation > Change product key, enter the 25-character key, and click Activate. On a Home PC this upgrades it to Pro in place, with one restart and no reinstall.
3. On a new or blank PC: install Windows 11 from Microsoft's free media (our bootable USB guide covers it), enter the key when asked or skip and enter it in Settings afterwards.
4. Settings then shows "Windows is activated with a digital licence". Microsoft records the activation against your PC's hardware, so a later reinstall on the same PC activates automatically.

What kind of key is this?

It is a genuine Microsoft product key that activates online with Microsoft's servers, which is the only real test of a legitimate key. The licence is tied to the PC it is activated on: you can reinstall Windows on that PC as often as you like, and the digital licence returns. Windows 11 needs a 1 GHz or faster 64-bit processor with two or more cores on Microsoft's supported list, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, UEFI firmware with Secure Boot, TPM 2.0, and a DirectX 12 graphics adapter.
