A note on Windows 10 support
Windows 10 stopped receiving free security updates on 14 October 2025. It still installs, activates and runs, and Microsoft's paid Extended Security Updates programme covers it for a further year, but for a new PC we recommend installing Windows 11 Pro and activating it with this key. If your PC does not meet the Windows 11 requirements (TPM 2.0, a supported CPU), Windows 10 Pro remains the practical choice, and this key is the licence for it.
Windows 10 digital licence: how it works
When you enter the key, Microsoft's activation servers link it to your PC's hardware and record a digital licence. From then on a reinstall of Windows 10 or Windows 11 on that PC activates automatically, without re-entering the key. The licence belongs to that PC. How activation works
- Pay, and the key arrives by email.
- Windows 10: Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Change product key. Windows 11: Settings > System > Activation > Change product key.
- Enter the 25-character key and click Activate. On a Home edition this also upgrades the PC to Pro in place.
- Settings shows "Windows is activated with a digital licence".

Frequently asked questions
Is this Windows 10 Pro key genuine?

Will this key activate Windows 11 Pro?

Is Windows 10 still safe to use?
